IT Category Specialist

Our client is a leading organisation and winner of multiple CIPS awards. They have over the past 5 years built a procurement team which is the envy of their sector.

This Category Specialist is a grade 11 role with a salary band which starts from £41453 and tops out just above £48000. As an interim position this position would look to pay somewhere between £350-400pd.

This particular role is focused on the IT and Technology category. The category covers Software, Hardware, Services and Telecoms procurement and will give the successful applicant a good all round exposure to vendors within this space. Candidates should have previous experience of IT procurement in order to be considered for these roles.

You will be responsible for implementing innovative approaches to procurement, with direct responsibility for operating new methods of service delivery, to achieve best value in procurement for our client.

The Category Specialist is a new role responsible for delivering category specific procurement exercises that ensure Value For Money and category compliance with our clients policy and procurement legislation while generating cashable savings to our client on present procurement activities.

The post enables category management to be delivered within our clients organisation and provide customers with category specific advice, knowledge and capability helping procurement expertise to be delivered on a category basis in the future.

Key accountabilities

·Deliver procurement category strategies

·Using domain knowledge of IT category to gain credibility and understand opportunities


·Perform research

·Assist with the creation and maintenance of approved suppliers lists

·Execute contract reviews within agreed framework and timescales

·Assist with the monitoring of supplier financial data

·Contract management (under the supervision of category lead) to monitor and drive supplier performance

·Help to prepare tender documentation and process, evaluate and analyse tender responses in accordance with audit regulations and EC directives

·Contribute towards stakeholder training in order to increase procurement intelligence outside of the procurement team
